Ryan Johnson is a nationally recognized data privacy and technology attorney with over two decades of combined experience spanning law, enterprise IT, public policy, and corporate strategy. As the founder and managing attorney of The Technology Law Group, Mr. Johnson advises Fortune 100 companies, boards of directors, and executive leadership teams on a wide range of legal and operational challenges at the intersection of technology, risk, and compliance.

Mr. Johnson holds the prestigious Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP) designation from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), a distinction awarded to elite privacy professionals demonstrating advanced knowledge and leadership in the field. He is also a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) and regularly counsels multinational organizations on regulatory compliance, cross-border data governance, AI and automation risk, data breach response, and the design of global privacy programs.

With a background as both a corporate attorney and an experienced IT engineer, Ryan brings a rare blend of legal insight and technical fluency to matters involving cybersecurity strategy, information governance, vendor risk management, and the negotiation of complex technology agreements. His legal practice spans sectors including healthcare, financial services, higher education, defense, and emerging tech.

Speaking & Teaching
A sought-after educator and public speaker, Mr. Johnson has taught and advised on legal innovation and data privacy curriculum at the graduate level. He currently serves as a Subject Matter Expert at Grand Canyon University, where he leads course development and instruction on Enterprise Cyber Law, Business Law & Ethics, and advanced privacy compliance.

Previously, he served as Adjunct Professor of Law at Arizona Summit Law School, where he designed and launched one of the first Law Practice Technology courses of its kind. The course, aimed at 2L and 3L law students, prepared future attorneys to navigate and harness legal technologies in modern practice. His contributions received widespread acclaim from faculty and students alike.

Mr. Johnson also provides policy insights to lawmakers and public agencies, and has advised Arizona legislators on emerging legislation impacting technology, consumer data, and cybersecurity.

Mr. Johnson is the author of the bestselling book Mind Hacks for Bar Exam Success! and has published extensively on topics including data privacy regulation, cloud governance, blockchain law, cybersecurity resilience, and the legal implications of AI. His work frequently appears in professional and academic forums focused on digital risk and innovation in legal practice.

Board Memberships
Mr. Johnson serves on the board of directors for a federally regulated financial institution with over $2.5 billion in assets, where he provides governance insight on cybersecurity, data protection, and regulatory oversight. He also sits on the board of Future Leaders, an Arizona-based nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to technology careers for underserved youth through corporate mentorship and training programs.

Technology and Engineering Background
Before entering legal practice, Mr. Johnson spent over a decade in the IT industry, serving in engineering roles for major corporations and managing complex enterprise infrastructure. His experience includes network design, data center operations, and systems engineering for Fortune 500® companies in Arizona and Michigan.

He also held the role of Technology Director for the Phoenix law firm Baird Williams & Greer, LLP, where he led firm-wide IT strategy and digital operations while also advising on legal matters involving intellectual property, data security, and compliance.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Johnson oversaw mission-critical game-day IT operations for the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium, ensuring seamless technology performance in a high-pressure, high-visibility environment.
