Privacy Statement

The Technology Law Group (also referred to as “TheTechnologyLawyer.net,” the “Firm,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to safeguarding the privacy of visitors to our website, individuals who engage with our thought leadership and legal services, clients and their representatives, suppliers, prospective employees, and any other individuals from whom we may collect personal information in the course of our business. This Privacy Statement sets out the principles governing our collection, use, disclosure, and protection of your personal information, as well as the rights and choices available to you under applicable privacy laws.

In this Privacy Statement, “personal information” refers to any information that can reasonably be used to identify or relate to an individual, either on its own or in combination with other information. For individuals located in jurisdictions such as the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or California, the definition of personal information shall be interpreted in accordance with applicable laws including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR, and the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA).

The Technology Law Group is the data controller with respect to the personal information described in this statement, and we are responsible for ensuring that our processing of personal data complies with applicable laws. All members of our Firm are required to follow the data protection practices described in this Privacy Statement as well as any related internal policies.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding our privacy practices, you may contact us at privacy@thetechnologylawyer.net.

Information We Collect

We do not require visitors to provide personal information when browsing the public areas of our website. However, you may choose to do so by contacting us through forms or email, subscribing to newsletters, registering for events, or engaging with our services. If you choose to provide personal information, we may collect details such as your name, job title, company affiliation, mailing address, email address, and telephone number, as well as any other information you choose to share with us.

In the course of providing legal or consulting services, we may also collect personal information about our clients, their personnel, or third parties. This may include identification data, contact information, financial or billing details, business information, regulatory or compliance-related information, or any other personal information that may be relevant to our services. We may collect this information directly from you, from your organization, from third-party sources (such as public databases, professional advisors, or vendors), or automatically through your use of our website.

Our website also collects certain technical data automatically through cookies and similar technologies, including IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referral URLs, and site usage metrics. For more information on how we use cookies, please refer to our Cookie Policy.

How We Use Personal Information

We may use personal information to operate our website, provide and improve our services, fulfill our contractual and legal obligations, and communicate with individuals who contact us. Specifically, we may use your information to respond to inquiries, register you for events or updates, send newsletters or client alerts, administer our business relationships, and evaluate and process employment applications.

In providing legal or consulting services, we may use personal information to analyze legal and regulatory issues, perform due diligence, manage communications with clients and regulators, and facilitate compliance with laws and professional responsibilities. We may also use personal information to conduct conflict checks, process payments, and manage our internal operations.

In accordance with applicable laws, we may rely on different legal bases to process your personal data, including your consent, the performance of a contract with you or your organization, our legitimate interests in operating and improving our business, or our legal obligations.

Information Sharing

We do not sell personal information to third parties. We may share your personal information with trusted service providers who support the operation of our business and our website, such as IT providers, communication platforms, data analytics vendors, or event management partners. These third parties are contractually obligated to protect your personal information and to use it solely for the purposes specified by us.

We may also share personal information with government authorities, courts, or regulatory bodies when required to do so by law, regulation, or legal process, or in order to protect the rights, property, or safety of our clients or the Firm. In the context of providing legal services, we may disclose personal information to opposing counsel, experts, co-counsel, or other professionals involved in the matter.

In the event of a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or other business transaction, we may transfer personal information as part of the transaction, provided that the recipient agrees to treat your information consistently with this Privacy Statement.

International Data Transfers

The Technology Law Group is based in the United States, but we serve clients and handle data on a global basis. If you are located outside of the United States, please be aware that your personal information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in a jurisdiction that may not provide the same level of data protection as your home country. Where required by applicable law, we implement appropriate safeguards to protect personal data transferred across borders, including the use of Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms approved by data protection authorities.

Your Rights

Individuals located in certain jurisdictions have specific rights under data protection laws, including the right to access their personal information, correct inaccuracies, request deletion, restrict processing, object to certain uses of their data, and receive a portable copy of their information. Where we rely on your consent to process personal data, you may withdraw that consent at any time.

If you are a resident of California, you may have the right to know what categories of personal information we have collected and disclosed about you, the sources of that information, the purposes for which it was used, and the third parties with whom it was shared. You may also have the right to request correction or deletion of your personal information and to opt out of certain types of data sharing. We do not sell personal information or share it for purposes of cross-context behavioral advertising as defined under the CPRA.

To exercise your rights, or if you have any questions about our processing of personal information, you may contact us at privacy@thetechnologylawyer.net. We may request additional information to verify your identity before responding to your request, as permitted or required by law.

Security and Retention

We maintain administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information against accidental, unlawful, or unauthorized destruction, loss, alteration, access, disclosure, or use. These safeguards include access controls, secure data storage, encryption where appropriate, and internal policies on data handling and retention.

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected or to comply with legal, regulatory, or professional obligations. When personal information is no longer required, we securely delete or anonymize it in accordance with our retention policies.
